The romance of New Hope
There are very few places that are picturesque in every way. From this timeless bed and breakfast to the charming town on the banks of the Delaware River, The Inn at Bowman’s Hill is postcard perfect.
Always on the hunt for a romantic weekend away, we knew we had to visit this popular country inn in Pennsylvania. Set on manicured grounds, with a seasonally heated pool, an orchid conservatory and Juanita, the property’s very own working dog (who gives the best kisses in town!) we wanted to kick ourselves for not visiting earlier.
Less than a two-hour drive from Manhattan this gorgeous owner- run inn is perfect for anyone wanting to escape the hustle and bustle of the city. From the moment we arrived and were met by Mike, the inn’s owner, we felt as if we were an extension of the family. The barefoot luxury of the property is the perfect place to kick off your shoes, read a good book or take a walk around the inn’s vast property.
After checking into our gorgeous 800 square foot Penthouse Suite which compromises of a large bedroom with exposed beams and an oversized bathroom with a Jacuzzi, we enjoyed a romantic couples massage in our separate sitting room with panoramic views of the pool, grounds, pond and woodlands. With the fireplace burning and a starlit bubble bath waiting, it was hard to tear ourselves away and head to the local tavern for dinner (but we’re so glad we did). The tavern at the end of the road, which has incredible cuisine and nightly live music, is without a doubt an extension of the inn and the perfect place to dine. After dinner, it was time to head back to enjoy a late night drink on our private balcony before turning in for the evening with movies in bed next to a crackling fire.
Breakfast at the inn was the highlight of our day and the much-needed fuel for a morning of antique exploring on the town’s main street. Think multi-course gourmet breakfast for two, cooked to order by the resident chef, Anastasio. Breakfast is routinely served in the gorgeous rustic breakfast room or in the conservatory. In the warmer months, weather permitting, you may prefer to enjoy breakfast al fresco on your own private deck or on the veranda overlooking the pool and grounds which happens to be a wildlife habitat with frequent visits by white-tailed deer, fox, racoon, squirrels, snapping turtles, tree frogs and large numbers of bird species.
Once you have started your day on the right foot, it’s time to explore (and the wildflower preserve across the road is the perfect place to start). After a walk in nature, the town welcomes lunch on the river bank, antique shopping, walks along the canal, trips on a horse-drawn carriage or a cycle on the towpath to admire the daffodils alongside the Delaware.
It’s no surprise that The Inn at Bowman’s Hill has been named in the Top 10 Most Romantic Bed & Breakfasts in the Nation by five different publications including Forbes Traveler and Trip Advisor and now, Passports & Perignon. Truly a spot for all seasons, this romantic Bucks County Bed and Breakfast will see us again next year for our annual anniversary weekend!
