Old country charm

If like us, you’re besotted with Jane Austen, rose gardens and an hour pre-dinner dedicated to really pretty G&T’s, then Hunters Country House should definitely be your next pied-à-terre.

Everything about Hunters is delightful. From the moment you drive onto the property, through the forest, you find yourself lost in time with the reception house looking as if it could be home to Elizabeth Bennet. From authentic wooden floors to the large fire places, everything about Hunters is made for a weekend escape with a great book. Decorated with old world elegance, chandeliers off -set beautiful ‘sink-into-me’ couches in front of large fire places with cottage-framed windows looking out over beautiful blooms.

It’s not only the décor which is first class. Meals at Hunters are romantically enchanting. From the chef’s surprise ‘amuse-bouche’ to the wonderfully created dishes, meal-times resemble the long-gone era of the early 1900’s. Silverware and crystal glasses are the perfect finishing touch to an already magical gastronomical experience, because let’s face it, every girl deserves her Sauvignon Blanc in a crystal chalice, right?

After- dinner port can be enjoyed outdoors in the beautifully decorated boma, where a large wood fire takes the bite out of the evening air and the stars make for a mesmerizing backdrop to great conversation, music or literature. If it wasn’t for our beautiful rooms we would be compelled to stay in the boma all night, idling away the evening with our latest Nora Roberts.

Our cottage at Hunters was just as picturesque as the main house. Egyptian cotton sheets, the smell of the fresh thatch roof and four-poster beds make the cottages both cozy and luxurious… and no detail is spared at turn –down! Staff bring the lodge’s 5-star rating alive with hot water bottles, love letters on our pillows and roaring in-room fires just to make our nightly bubble baths more lavish.

Mornings  are spent in the beautiful glass-conservatory relishing what has been rated as South Africa’s best ‘Eggs Benedict’ followed by long walks in the garden, an early afternoon at the pool and of course, a siesta with a good book. Hunters is the perfect place to kick-back, relax and rejuvenate for the coming week ahead, in 5 star luxury, of course.
